Deborah, are you commenting on the wrong post?

Anyway, "no incentive if no financial compensation" is a radical and untenable position. No songs would be written if songwriters could not monetize songs? No songs get written for fun, love, passion, politics, art?

"No financial compensation without copyright" is also radical and untenable, though it may hold more truth for songwriters who do nothing other than write songs than most artists.

On another track,, "protecting copyright" does not mean that more restrictive copyright is always a good thing, even for professional songwriters.

Protecting copyright is what encourages more creation. Songwriters need to be compensated for what they are writing, or they would have no incentive to continue. Please think a little harder about your position and what it actually means in the long run for creativity.

Amen. One should spend money on things that encourage more creation, not the creation itself, generally speaking.

(That said, a defensive patent warchest would be nice. :)
