A related security benefit is that if sites like Digg don't have their own auth system, their doesn't have any user account data or account management software to compromise.

I'm starting to think that the benefit is better security.  Convenience is the same or worse until the ocean has been boiled and everybody is using OID.  Usability is definitely worse, since the whole handshake is confusing as heck.</description>
